Tickets are on sale now
HOLLYWOOD, Fla.—Two titles will be on the line on The Heavyweight Factory's "Rise of the Heavyweights" card on Tuesday, August 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Tickets are on sale now.
Newly-crowned NABA heavyweight champion Timur Ibragimov of Hallandale Beach (28-2-1, 15 KOs) will try to add a second belt to his collection when he takes on Gurcharan Singh (20-0-0, 11 KOs) of Atlantic City, N.J. for the vacant WBO Intercontinental heavyweight title in the main event. Ibragimov is coming off an impressive 12-round unanimous decision victory over former WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall on June 15 at Hard Rock Live.
Singh is the first heavyweight contender from Punjab State, India. It will be his first U.S. fight since October 2007. His last two fights have been in the United Kingdom. After ten years of climbing his way up the heavyweight ladder, Ibragimov, a 1996 Uzbekistan Olympian, is ready to make some noise in the division.
At 35, Ibragimov recently signed a promotional contract with the Heavyweight Factory."Now I am North American champion and I hope one day world champion," Ibragimov said. "I think I just understand more and how to be more aggressive. I think I am happy with who I am now. "At 35, I think when the older boxers respect themselves they want to be world champion and work for it. Of course, I wanted to be the world champion the whole time since I started but now I have the opportunity. I have to use that opportunity."Ibragimov moved to Hallandale Beach seven years ago and considers South Florida his home. "After the Olympics and when I was an amateur I was already thinking about professional boxing," Ibragimov said. "Pretty much everything has come true for me except the world belt. If I train hard, I know I can do it."
In the other title fight, Cuban southpaw heavyweight Luis Ortiz (2-0-0, 2 KOs) of Kendall will fight for the vacant WBC FECARBOX heavyweight title. His opponent is still to be determined. With 362 amateur fights and 2-0 pro record, both by knockout, Ortiz is on the fast track and could be the next great heavyweight from Cuba. "It is a privilege to be a Cuban fighter, there is the best schools in Cuba for boxers," Ortiz said. "They have had some of the biggest names in boxing all around the world.
"Now that I am in pro boxing I want to accomplish the same thing. The big people are over here. I always wanted to accomplish this big dream inside of me and that's to be the champion of the world."
Also on the card is former University of Miami football player James Bryant who will put his unbeaten record (3-0, 2KOs) on the line. Bryant is a product of the Heavyweight Factory, a program that turns former football and basketball players into heavyweight boxers. Eight action-packed fights are scheduled.
